Barcelona have unveiled their new home kit for the upcoming 2024-25 season, and it's a departure from their traditional blaugrana stripes. In a nod to their 125th anniversary, the Catalan club has opted for a legacy design inspired by the very first jerseys worn by the team over a century ago.
The new kit features a half-and-half design reminiscent of the original jerseys worn by the club from its founding in 1899 until 1910. The choice to go with this unique design is part of Barcelona's celebration of their special milestone.
Historians believe that the club's iconic colors may have originated from Merchant Taylor's School in Merseyside, England, where one of the club's founder members, Arthur Witty, attended. Another theory suggests that the colors were borrowed from FC Basel by Joan Gamper, another founder of the club.

This season's kit marks the return of the half-and-half shirts, last seen during the 2008-09 season when Pep Guardiola led Barcelona to an unprecedented LaLiga, Copa del Rey, and Champions League treble. The launch video for the 2024-25 home kit features appearances from club legends like Andrés Iniesta and Carles Puyol, as well as fan favorite Ronaldinho.
Notable past iterations of the half-and-half design include the version worn during the club's centenary season in 1999-2000, under the guidance of coach Louis van Gaal and featuring stars like Guardiola, Luis Enrique, and Rivaldo.
The new kit also showcases current players such as Aitana Bonmati, Robert Lewandowski, Pedri, and rising star Lamine Yamal. The overall reception of the kit has been positive, with many praising it as a classy tribute to the club's rich history that will surely make a statement on the pitch next season.
