Barcelona stars wear blindfolds in training in unusual preparation for Betis trip

Barcelona duo Arturo Vidal and Nelson Semedo sported blindfolds in training as the La Liga club's preparations for their trip to Real Betis on Sunday took a strange turn.

Quique Setien has been busy implementing his methods in training since taking over as Barca boss last month, though some of his drills seem less conventional than others.

While working with his players ahead of their next league fixture, Setien could be seen trying to shepherd Vidal and Semedo away from danger while there eyes were covered.

Goal report that Setien designed the drill in order to 'amplify his players' senses and increase their awareness on the pitch'.

While the training drill seems bizarre, it may be just what the Catalans need as they bid to respond after a difficult week both on and off the pitch.

Star man Lionel Messi had a very public falling out with director of football Eric Abidal at the start of the week, before the Spanish giants crashed out of the Copa del Rey on Thursday.

Away to divisional rivals Athletic Bilbao, Sergio Busquets put the ball in his own goal in stoppage time to send Barca crashing out of the national cup.

Setien will hope his side recover quickly from that defeat, but knows it will be tough away to a side he managed between 2017 and 2019.

"Well, it is unquestionably a special match for me and my coaching staff," said Setien ahead of his return to Estadio Benito Villamarin.

"We spent two extraordinary years there and it is true that it has some special connotations.

"It is also true that we know the team well, although new important players have arrived, but more or less we have a fairly deep knowledge of these players that we had for two years.

"Knowing them does not mean that you will have them under control, but we do know that it will be a truly difficult game."
