Barcelona eye Chelsea duo N’Golo Kante and Jorginho on free transfers with contracts expiring next summer

Barcelona want to exploit the contract situations of N'Golo Kante and Jorginho and are keen to sign the Chelsea duo on free transfers next summer.

The midfield pair are both out of contract at the end of the season and will be free to talk to interested foreign clubs from January.

Chelsea are open to renewing the contracts of both players but want to sign Kante on reduced terms from his £290,000-a-week deal due to his fitness struggles.

Only a short-term contract is currently on the table for the France international, who has suffered a setback in his return from his latest injury.

Kante has been sidelined for two months with a hamstring issue and Graham Potter confirmed on Monday that the club are still waiting to confirm his fitness.

The 31-year-old has also long had interest from Paris Saint-Germain but would prefer to remain at Chelsea, though he is open to a move to Spain to play for either Barcelona or Real Madrid.

Similarly, Jorginho is open to staying at Chelsea but will likely see clubs in Italy join Barcelona in the race for his signature.

Barcelona have been in the market for free transfers since new LaLiga rules limited their spending, with PSG’s Lionel Messi, Athletic Club's Inigo Martinez and Manchester United's Diogo Dalot all also on their list of targets.

Barca signed Chelsea duo Andreas Christensen and Marcos Alonso this summer, also chasing Blues skipper Cesar Azpilicueta, who ended up penning fresh terms in west London.

Meanwhile, former Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang moved in the opposite direction in a £10.3million permanent transfer on deadline day.
