Barcelona boss Quique Setien defends Nelson Semedo after LaLiga protocol breach: 'He made a mistake'

Barcelona coach Quique Setien has revealed that right-back Nelson Semedo apologised to "everyone" at the club after he breached LaLiga protocol earlier this week.

The Portuguese defender missed training on Thursday after photos of him on a night out with over 20 people emerged, meaning he had broken strict rules ahead of the return to competition.

The 26-year-old has since tested negative for coronavirus and in theory is available for Barca's trip to Mallorca on Saturday.

"Whether he plays or not, it won't be for that reason, the lack of care he had," Setien said on Friday.

"It's a situation that, in principle and in football terms, won't affect me."

Barca have not made any public comment and the matter has been dealt with internally.

"Obviously, he was tremendously worried," Setien said. "It was an oversight that produced this situation. He wasn't aware what the situation was. He made a mistake.

"He has said sorry to everyone, to me, but it's just a mistake and no more."
