Bangor crash: Injured child taken to hospital

A child has been taken to hospital after being involved in a road traffic collision in Bangor.

The emergency services, including the air ambulance were called to the incident on the Gransha Road today which took place at around 3.27pm when a child was hit by a vehicle.

Police closed off a section of the road from the Gransha Road Roundabout to its junction with Cranley Road for around four hours before it reopened just before 8pm.

Witnesses at the scene said the air ambulance landed in the grounds of Bangor Grammar School.

The child was treated for their injuries at the scene before being assessed and taken to Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children.

The extent of their injuries are not yet known.

A Northern Ireland Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 15.27 on Monday, 10 May 2021 following reports of an RTC at Gransha Road, Bangor.

"NIAS dispatched one Emergency crew to the scene. The charity Air Ambulance with HEMs crew on board was also tasked to the incident.

"Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, one patient was taken by ambulance to the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children."
