Bangkok Mass Transit Authority, the Bangkok public bus operator, has dropped the plan to revamp bus routes after finding it did not respond to people’s needs.
In mid-August, the Land Transport Department, which oversees the BMTA, began a month-long trial run on the reorganised 269 bus routes in the capital. The goal was to increase service coverage by 20%, reduce overlapping lines and extend the total distance to 7,833km from 6,437km.
The number of each route was also changed to include English letters such as B3 (formerly No.18) or B2 (No.16).
Sanit Promwong, director-general of the department, said on Friday the changes were not the answer for most people and many were confused by the number changes, according to Thai media.
The trial run was therefore ended and the old routes restored, with a next major reform scheduled for 2019.
