Baldur's Gate 3 gets new villain reveal featuring Jason Isaacs

Gortash-close-up

Baldur's Gate 3 received a brand new trailer at E3 2023, showing off a new NPC played and voiced by celebrated actor Jason Isaacs. Isaacs is renowned for his role in 2017 dark comedy The Death of Stalin, as well as Star Trek: Discovery, and indie capitalism simulator The Last Worker. He also played a major villain in season 3 of Netflix's Castlevania series.

This new NPC, who goes by the name of Gortash, looks to be a scheming magic user, operating in the city of Baldur's Gate. Though we don't yet know if his army of dangerous automata will be friend or foe, we do know that he'll be a key character in Baldur's Gate 3's plot. The trailer also seems to hint that he could become a playable party member should the protagonist play their cards right. Or wrong.

Though currently in Early Access, Baldur's Gate 3 is scheduled for a full, official release on August 31. It's also launching the very same day on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S if you'd prefer a console version of the upcoming turn-based RPG.

We've played plenty of Baldur's Gate 3 in its early access form, but at this point, we'd suggest waiting on the full game. That's because only the first act is available to play, and your saves won't carry over to the final release.

Still, the experience has been fantastic so far, minus the usual bugs and performance issues you'd expect from an early access title. Certainly good enough to be ranked among both our best PC games and best RPGs lists.

In terms of other notable RPGs, Summer Game Fest brought something of an A game in 2023. Lies of P got a substantial new showing, and Remnant 2 is looking like a worthwhile follow-up to the underrated soulslike shooter. Meanwhile, Akira Toriyama-created manga Sand Land is getting a cool-looking video game adaptation.
