Bakrid 2026 Date: When will Kerala celebrate Eid-ul-Adha? Check holiday update and market closure

As the festival nears, there has been some uncertainty regarding the exact holiday date. In most parts of India, Bakrid will be celebrated on May 28, 2026.

However, in Kerala, a two-day holiday has been announced for the occasion. For most states in India, Bakrid will be observed on May 28, 2026. Two days holiday for Bakrid in Kerala.

According to an official notification, May 27 had already been declared a public holiday for Bakrid, also known as the ‘festival of sacrifice’.

"Since 'Id-Ul-Ad'ha' (Bakrid) is being celebrated in the state on May 28, the government is pleased to order that Thursday, May 28, 2026, will also be a holiday...," the notification said.

Will Stock Markets Remain Closed On Bakrid 2026, May 27 or May 28?

Yes, stock markets will remain shut on May 28. The National Stock Exchange (NSE) had already included this date in its list of holidays for Eid al-Adha.

Trading activities will be suspended on Thursday, May 28.

Why Was The Bakrid Holiday Date Changed?

The revision in the holiday date came after religious authorities confirmed that the crescent moon marking the start of Dhul-Hijjah had not been sighted.

Eid-ul-Adha is among the most important festivals in Islam and takes place alongside the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia. In India, the period leading up to the festival typically sees a surge in market activity, as families get ready for celebrations, special meals, and social gatherings.
