Baker Mayfield heads to the locker room after suffering an injury

Baker Mayfield has been taken to the Cleveland Browns locker room after suffering what appears to be a back or hip injury in the third quarter of the team’s game against the Seattle Seahawks.

The origin of the injury looks like it came on a play where Mayfield ran for a first down but landed hard on his hip. He took a knee in obvious pain after the whistle two plays later. Mayfield worked with trainers on the Browns sideline after a Nick Chubb fumble and was then escorted to the locker room for further evaluation.

Garrett Gilbert takes over as the Browns quarterback if Mayfield cannot continue. The team does not have a third QB active.

Update: Mayfield jogged back onto the field at the end of the ensuing Seahawks drive. He was back under center for the Browns’ next offensive play.
