Bake Off host Matt Lucas 'sick after scoffing 12 contestants' bakes on first day'

Matt Lucas was left feeling very queasy on his first day as Bake Off host after eating all 12 contestants' bakes, it has been reported.

Little Britain star Matt, 46, has taken over from Sandi Toksvig after the 62-year-old announced that she was quitting the Channel 4 show in January.

But it seems as though Matt became a little too excited on his first day.

A source told The Sun that Matt was "naturally very excited" about his role on the show and threw himself into the experience.

The insider said: "There’s a reason Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith only take small mouthfuls when they’re judging and why co-host Noel Fielding only samples the bakes every now and again.

“He certainly felt the effects of overindulging. But it was worth him learning this valuable lesson early.”

In March, Matt confirmed that he would be taking over from Sandi as host alongside Noel Fielding.

He said at the time: "I'm chuffed to bits to be joining the most delicious show on television.

"I can't wait to break bread with Noel, Prue and Paul and meet the brilliant bakers. And bearing in mind my love of cake, I've already ordered some much larger trousers in anticipation. See you in the tent!"

Noel added: "I love Matt. I love his warmth and his comedy and his big joyful smile.

"I think if we play our cards right we could become the next Chas and Morph."
