Changes to the baby vaccine programme have been introduced by the NHS this year.
Babies born from January 1, 2020 will now receive one less Pneumococcal Vaccine (PCV).
The NHS say: "All babies born on or after 1 January 2020 will receive their first dose of the pneumococcal vaccine with their other infant vaccinations at 12 weeks of age and a booster dose of this vaccine on or after their first birthday.”
All babies born before January 1, 2020 will still be offered three doses, at 8 and 16 weeks and a booster at 1 year.
The pneumococcal vaccine protects against serious and potentially fatal pneumococcal infections. It's also known as the pneumonia vaccine.
Here's a full breakdown of vaccines your baby will receive from January 2020:
8 weeks:
- Diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), One injection polio, Hib and hepatitis B (6-in-1 vaccine)
- RV (rotavirus) vaccine
- Men B vaccine
12 weeks:
- 6-in-1 vaccine – 2nd dose
- PCV (pneumococcal) vaccine
- RV (rotavirus) vaccine – 2nd dose
16 weeks:
- 6-in-1 vaccine – 3rd dose
- MenB vaccine – 2nd dose
1 year:
- Hib/MenC vaccine given as a single jab containing vaccines against meningitis C (1st dose) and Hib (4th dose)
- MMR vaccine (measles, mumps and rubella), given as a single jab
- PCV (pneumococcal) – 2nd dose
- MenB vaccine – 3rd dose
