The planned start of the 20-baht-flat mass-transport fare in Greater Bangkok in October is likely to be delayed.
Transport Minister Suriya Jungrungruangkit on Tuesday admitted the probable delay in the passage of the three essential bills would mean the scheduled launch on Oct 1 would need to be postponed.
No new date had been set, but the minister expected it would be in mid-November.
The 20-baht flat fare is a flagship policy of the ruling Pheu Thai Party. It will be possible only after three bills become law.
The minister apologised for the delay.
More than 200,000 people registered for the 20-baht fare on Monday, the first registration day.
The first phase will cover the 13 existing metro lines served by 194 stations across Greater Bangkok. The reduced fare is only for Thai citizens.
