An Ayrshire band proved they're top brass with a fine victory.
Kilmarnock Concert Brass scooped a coveted gong in the Scottish Brass Band Association (SBBA) Regional Brass Band Championships, bagging top prize in the Scottish 3rd Section.
They opened the championships in Perth Concert Hall, playing ‘Facets of Glass’ by Gordon Langford, a well-known composer.
Lesley Herd of the band said: "Drawn first, and recently promoted to the 3rd Section, the band gave an excellent performance, setting a marker for the competition which proved difficult to beat.

"During the results ceremony, the adjudicators, Sandy Brown and Helen Douthwaite, mentioned ‘a clear first and second place’, attention to style of the music, ensemble, balance and control of playing evident in the winning performance.
"Best Instrumentalist of the day was awarded to Iain Lowry, Kilmarnock Concert Brass and the band celebrated in time-honoured fashion by cheering and clapping as Iain took to the stage to receive his award.
"Dysart Colliery Band took third place with 178 points, Arbroath second with 180 and Kilmarnock Concert Brass became 2022’s Scottish 3rd Section champions with a score of 182. What an achievement!"
In addition to the trophies, this achievement brings with it an invitation to represent Scotland at the Kapitol National Brass Band Championships held in Cheltenham on September 17-18.
Fundraising for this will start in the near future, in addition to the band seeking a new, permanent home for rehearsals.
