Ayo Dosunmu ‘well-liked’ by Bulls, likely to receive new contract

As the Chicago Bulls consider all of their options this summer, the future continues to be uncertain. On the one hand, Arturas Karnrisovas said that he was against a rebuild when the season ended. On the other, Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports reported that Chicago has put out feelers in regard to a potential Zach LaVine trade.

On top of all that, the Bulls also have to worry about bringing their own guys back. Players such as Nikola Vucevic and Coby White need contract extensions, while Patrick Williams is eligible for an extension as well. Ayo Dosunmu also falls into that category, but it seems like he will be back.

According to Sam Smith of NBA.com, Dosunmu is “well-liked” by the Bulls coaching staff and is expected to receive a new contract spanning two to three seasons.

“Dosunmu is a restricted free agent who has limited market value after a backsliding season, but he’s well liked by the coaching staff and management and expected to receive a reasonable contract for two or three seasons,” Smith wrote.

After a promising rookie campaign in the 2021-22 season, Dosunmu struggled this past year, not only failing to improve upon his first year, but sliding backward.

Despite playing only one fewer minute per game, his scoring and assist numbers dropped, and his efficiency fell off a cliff.

At just 23 years old, Dosunmu still has plenty of time to grow, and that’s probably a big reason why Chicago wants to bring him back. That being said, he needs to make the most out of his next contract.
