Axel Blake and Aneeshwar Kunchala make it through to BGT 2022 final

Britain's Got Talent confirmed its two finalists tonight after a tense semi-final.

Axel Blake and Aneeshwar Kunchala were announced as the two latest acts to make it into the final of the ITV talent show, which airs on Sunday evening on ITV where the contestants will battle for a spot at the Royal Variety Performance.

Axel sailed straight through to the final after placing first in the public vote, whilst Aneeshwar Kunchala faced off against Welsh of the West End to battle for a place in the final alongside the likes of singing sensation Maxwell Thorpe, young ventriloquist Jamie Leahey, music duo Flintz and Taylor and singing teacher Tom Ball amongst others.

Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, David Walliams and Alesha Dixon gave their verdict on tonight's act, after a close semi-final which saw the likes of Golden Buzzer comedian Axel Blake perform as well as quartet Scooter Boys and singing dad Nick Edwards.

Aneeshwar Kunchala, 7, made it into the top three after being invited on the show especially by David Walliams whilst tonight's winner Axel impressed Simon in his audition, causing him to hit his Golden Buzzer for the comedian.

Aneeshwar was thrilled to make it through (ITV)

"A comedy superstar is born tonight. Fantastic," David told him, "So funny. You made it seem so effortless. You've got a wonderful and likeable personality - and everything you said was brilliantly funny and original."

Elsewhere, Simon described the act as just what people needed after a tough few years, as he praised him for his Covid joke in particular, saying it was the "only funny Covid joke" he's heard in the past couple of years.

Favourites IMD Legion were booted out of the show (ITV)

"There's something I have to say to you though," Simon said, followed by a dramatic pause leaving fans questioning what his next move was, "I like a granite worktop, and a waste disposal unit. I want 25 per cent off and you can have this."

Tonight's contest was well fought, but the first act of the night, Matricks Illusion, who bought out their Simon Cowell lookalike once again, didn't go down well with viewers. Simon seemed the least impressed as he pressed his Buzzer halfway through the act.
