AWS outage continues: All the apps and services that have been affected

Amazon logo on building.

If you've been having problems using just about any service on the internet this week, then you're not alone. Amazon Web Services suffered a serious outage yesterday, and it seems those issues are continuing on into today (October 21) as well.

Needless to say, huge portions of the internet run on AWS, and that means these issues will be affecting a bunch of your favorite apps and services. We saw major disruption to Snapchat and Strava, but reports claim that at least 1,000 different apps and services were affected.

The AWS status page had promised the problem has been identified, with the fix rolling out al multiple points throughout yesterday, but it seems the problems aren't going away. In fact other issues seem to have popped up in the interim, meaning your favorite apps and services may still be popping up and down throughout the day.

But which apps and services have been affected by the big AWS outage? Here's a full list, based on our first hand experience and issues reported over at DownDetector.

  • Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Amazon (including Alexa and Prime Video)
  • Apple Music
  • Blink
  • Boost Mobile
  • Chime
  • Coinbase
  • Delta
  • Duolingo
  • Epic Games Store
  • Fanduel
  • Fortnite
  • GoDaddy
  • HBO Max
  • Hinge
  • Hulu
  • InstaCart
  • Life 360
  • Lyft
  • McDonalds app
  • Microsoft Teams
  • My Fitness Pal
  • Office 365
  • Outlook
  • Pinterest
  • PlayStation Network
  • Pokemon Go
  • Reddit
  • Ring
  • Roblox
  • Roku
  • Signal
  • Slack
  • Sling
  • Snapchat
  • Square
  • Starbucks
  • Steam
  • Strava
  • Tidal
  • Trello
  • Ubisoft Connect
  • Venmo
  • VR Chat
  • Wordle
  • Xbox
  • Xero
  • Zoom

Some of those services do stand out because they don't seem like the type of products that would rely on Amazon's infrastructure. Microsoft has its own cloud computing and hosting with Azure, which I would have guessed makes things like Teams and Xbox immune from AWS issues. But apparently that isn't the case. The internet is a complex place, and one hosting provider going down can have that ripple effect.

It's unclear what's going on with AWS right now, since all the fixes Amazon has pushed only seem to be working for so long. So be sure to check our ongoing coverage of the outage, and stay up to date with everything that's happened.

Is there a service that you use that's been affected, and is not on this list? Let us know in the comments below.
