Aviva Stadium could be asked to host English clubs in Champions League following Queen's death

The Aviva Stadium could be called into emergency Champions League action next week.

British clubs hosting second round games may have to play at neutral venues due to a period of mourning in the UK following the Queen’s death.

Liverpool are due to host Ajax on Tuesday while on Wednesday Chelsea face Red Bull Salzburg and Manchester City meet Borussia Dortmund.

UEFA will consider all its options and a request to open up Aviva Stadium for one of the games was not being ruled out last night.

Arsenal’s Europa League clash with PSV next Thursday could also enter the equation.
