Avengers: Doomsday’s latest trailer has fans online celebrating. Chris Hemsworth’s Thor is back in the fold for a prospective bout with Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom. Despite his name being clearly visible during that massive chair reveal video earlier this year, the anticipation has grown a ton in the past week and change. News of the teaser trailer drops for Avengers: Doomsday began to hit the web. And, some fans were really upset that they wouldn’t get to see these trailers as intended. ( No, we’re not talking about the leaks!)
Fast forward to a week out from Chris Evans return as Steve Rogers in the previous teaser, and we have another OG ready to go. In the latest clip, Hemsworth stands in a forest praying to his departed father Odin. Thor is looking for the strength of the all Fathers for the coming threat of Doctor Doom. Fans who remember Thor: Love and Thunder will recall the Avenger has a daughter now. Love is the daughter of Marvel villain Gorr the God Butcher. And, Thor has every intent on protecting the kid from whatever nonsense Doctor Doom has planned.
It’s funny, one week can make all the difference. Suddenly, talk of a “fumbled” (Jesus I despise that word now.) trailer rollout is quickly receding. What happened to all the folks upset? Well, it may shock you, but a 1 minute trailer is not an entire movie!
Avengers: Doomsday’s trailer strategy is working

A lot of the criticisms of Avengers: Doomsday stem from stuff that finds its origins from before this movie changed tracks. Think about how much has changed since Marvel’s Comic Con presentation where they laid out the rest of The Multiverse Saga to the recently released Fantastic Four: First Steps? Chris Evans riding back in as Steve Rogers was a lever to wedge arguments back into the discourse.
Thinking back to 2021, one of the most requested projects in the entire first year and a half back in theaters was Steve Rogers returning the Infinity Stones. While this doesn’t seem to be that, It is the return of a fan favorite character. One whose presence I have been waiting to see bounce off a vastly changed Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes since the moment his old behind sat on that bench. However, There was a bit of a sore spot for having to buy a ticket
With the release of today’s teaser, fans now expect each one of these to hit online after seeing it on the big screen with Avatar: Fire and Ash. Rumors of whatever the next teaser could be are dancing around and could be even bigger reveals.
Thor returns for a massive battle in Avengers: Doomsday

But, it isn’t just the trailer release strategy that has fans excited. One of my favorite threads from the recent MCU phases is getting picked up in an unexpected way. Thor’s daughter is left in his charge with a tremendous amount of cosmic power at the end of Thor: Love and Thunder. In other corners, I’ve seen other people debate whether or not we’ll see stuff from Phases 4, 5 and 6 in Avengers: Doomsday. just today’s reveal alone helps pour some more water on those particular fires
Having a child walking around with the literal powers of Cosmic God Eternity was always going to be a McGuffin some villain would come back for. A lot of us could not have dreamed that Doctor Doom would be the one to fill that role. And, as the excitement continues to build, something to ponder. There are infinite McGuffins just hanging out in plain sight that Victor von Doom will have no problem using to put a hurt on our favorite characters.
It was always going to go this way. People were going to complain, then they would see one of their faves make a grand return. Finally, the nostalgia would overtake them. Just think, most of the fandom isn’t even ready for the chaos of the next reveal.
