Austria has announced new restrictions on UK visitors in a new blow for winter sports holidaymakers.
The country has confirmed visitors from four countries including the UK must have proof of a booster jab and negative PCR test, or face quarantine, from Christmas Day.
Denmark, Norway and the Netherlands will also be added to Austria’s virus variant list from December 25.
The Austrian National Tourist Office tweeted: “The UK will be classified as a virus variant region from December 25 in Austria. Everyone travelling from the UK needs to quarantine for 10 days. Except: People who are fully vaccinated AND have received the booster can enter Austria with a negative PCR test.”
Aviation data specialist Cirium confirmed there are eight flights scheduled to fly from the UK to Austria, equating to 1,434 seats, on December 25. Four of these flights are to Innsbruck, two are to Salzburg and a further two to Vienna.
In the seven days from December 25 to New Year's Eve, there are 134 flights scheduled between the UK and Austria, equating to 23,795 seats. Of those, 54 are heading for Vienna, 44 for Innsbruck and 36 for Salzburg.
British Airways has the most flights between the two countries, with 28 scheduled services during the period.
Despite various Covid curbs, the UK's airports are set to be busy in the run-up to Christmas Eve.
There are 4,962 flights scheduled to depart from the UK - equating to 846,110 seats in the period from December 22-24. On Christmas Day there are 447 flights scheduled to depart from the UK – equating to 92,101 seats.
In the seven-day period from December 22-28, there are 10,522 flights scheduled to depart from the UK – equating to 1,844,184 seats.
