Australian athletes at the 2026 Commonwealth Games have reportedly been advised not to wear team gear during training runs in Glasgow following a nearby murder.
The warning, reported in the Sydney Morning Herald, came after runner Ollie Hoare encountered a murder scene during a training session in the city.
It follows the launch of a murder investigation into the death of 44-year-old Paul McMinigal, who was found seriously injured on Burgher Street on Friday afternoon and later pronounced dead at the scene.
The warning to athletes also comes after violent clashes at an anti-immigration protest in central Glasgow on Saturday.
Police have made 15 arrests in connection with the protests, involving offences such as assault, possession of offensive weapons, breach of the peace, obstruction, and resisting arrest.
Team officials have reportedly advised athletes to run only in groups and avoid wearing the green and gold team uniform while training.
Commonwealth Games Australia has been approached for comment.
