(Reuters) - Miner South32 Ltd <S32.AX> said on Wednesday it plans to appeal a ruling by Colombia's constitutional court that it must pay damages over the health and environmental impact of its Cerro Matoso nickel mine.
The court ruled last month that waste emissions had seriously affected neighbouring communities. The company's licensing did not reflect constitutional standards for environmental protection and Cerro Matoso must re-apply, it added.
South32 said in a statement that it was not possible to fully assess any potential financial or operational impacts from the court ruling as the decision ordered various compensatory and remedial activities which were not yet quantifiable.
