Who Is Bear, Australia’s First Ever Golden Bachelor? What To Know Before The Premiere

Calling all meemaws and folks who are fanging a silver fox (me), Australia’s first great hunk of spunk for The Golden Bachelor is about to grace our screens. Here’s everything we know about our incoming Bachie.

HELL YEAH! It appears that the Bachelor universe has been saved. While we won’t be getting your usual The Bachelor, The Bachelorette or The Bachelors (womp womp) this year, we will be getting our first The Golden Bachelor.

Our first Golden Bachie is none other than Sydneysider, Barry ‘Bear’ Myrden, whose debut as the titular heartbreaker was confirmed when he was snapped filming scenes for the new spin-off series.

Who is Barry ‘Bear’ Myrden, Australia’s first Golden Bachelor?

According to the incoming Bachie’s LinkedIn Profile, Myrden is an Infrastructure Engineer for the Woolworths Group. He is also an Advisor / Investor for BlockScribe. Fancy, amirite?

While Myrden’s Facebook page doesn’t list his age, Daily Mail Australia has reported the father of three is “50-something” and described him as a “passionate sailor”, which is made evident by his various Facebook posts.

Under his about section on Facebook, Myrden wrote: “Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely, in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting ‘WOO-HOO! What a ride!'”

He also wrote that his favourite quote is, “Before you judge someone … walk a mile in their shoes. Because then you will be a mile away … and you will have their shoes.”

While Myrden appears to have a solid career, his personal life has been marked with tragedy.

Was The Golden Bachelor‘s Barry ‘Bear’ Myrden married?

According to Chattr, Barry was previously married to Audrey Myrden, who unfortunately passed away in 2011 following a “very aggressive malignant brain tumour” diagnosis in 2009.

In a Facebook Group, entitled “Aurdey’s Wish”, Myrden shared a heartbreaking update regarding his wife’s condition back in November 2011.

“She is not very good and wasn’t expected to last this past weekend. It could be a matter of days even hours. It is clear that the tumour has come back and they have exhausted all treatment options. Now it is just a case of keeping her comfortable,” he wrote.

“Thanks so much for all your thoughts and prayers.”

Barry discussed the tragedy in an appearance on A Current Affair back in 2012. As part of the episode, the show made good on Audrey’s wish to move the family from their rental into a more stable home, with the family relocated to a renovated home in Sydney where Audrey, Barry and the kids could spend her final days.

Does The Golden Bachelor’s Barry ‘Bear’ Myrden have kids?

Australia’s first Golden Bachie shares three sons with his late wife: Charlie, Jack and Declan.

Per Chattr, the trio’s ages range between 17 and 21.

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia, an inside source dished that it was “no surprise” that Myrden was up for the Bachie role, as his sons reportedly claimed their dad would bring around the “wrong kind of girls”.

“Bear is always complaining that his boys are saying that he is bringing around the wrong kind of girls that are just too young and hot for him,” a source who claims to be a friend of The Golden Bachelor told the publication.

“We were always saying that he needs to be put on a show like MAFS, so seeing him up for the Bachelor role is no surprise.”

What are the romance rumours about Samantha Armytage and The Golden Bachelor‘s Barry ‘Bear’ Myrden?

In the lead up to the premiere of The Golden Bachelor, rumours were swirling that Barry was romantically involved with Samantha Armytage, who will take the reigns from Osher Günsberg as the host of the dating show. Apparently, the rumours — which erupted after the pair’s joint appearance at the 2025 Logie Awards — got so rampant that Golden Bachelor producers were sent into a downright tizzy.

Thankfully for the other ladies who were cast on the show, Armytage later confirmed that the rumours were false, meaning there’s plenty of Barry to go ’round when the first season starts airing.

When does The Golden Bachelor start?

Clutch your roses, The Golden Bachelor Australia will officially debut on Monday, October 20, at 7.30pm on Channel Nine and 9Now!
