Auston Trusty quizzed on Motherwell incident as he gives his take

Auston Trusty thought Celtic were getting a penalty at Motherwell for an elbow on him by Sam Nicholson.

The decision that everyone was talking about for days and weeks was of course for a handball by the Fir Park winger as he challenged with Trusty for Anthony Ralston's long throw into the box.

There has been much debate around whether or not the ball hit Nicholson's hand, whether that was enough to constitute a handball and whether there was conclusive evidence for VAR to intervene and for referee John Beaton to change his decision.

From the centre-back's point of view, he actually felt he deserved a penalty for a foul anyway, after feeling an elbow to his nose during the challenge.

Asked by Charlie Mulgrew on Mulgrew Pitch to Par if that's what he thought had been given, he said: "I thought so. Elbow in the nose. I thought it was, that's why I was on the ground.

"I think it actually helped that I was on the ground because I got hit in the head, because it gave them more time to notice that it was actually a handball."

Trusty also disputed the notion that it was his own intervention that caused Nicholson's arm to be up high, adding: "People said that I lifted his hand up. How? How would I lift his hand up?"

Asked what the feeling was when Beaton was being sent to the monitor, he added: "When I went down, I asked him if this is definitely a penalty. Then he said he is checking for a handball. I was like 'He didn't elbow me?'"
