Aust Post to commemorate Year of the Ox

Australia Post will issue a commemorative stamp celebrating the Year of the Ox. (AAP)

The incoming Year of the Ox will be stamped into postage history, with Australia Post issuing a commemorative set to mark the Chinese New Year.

The Lunar New Year begins on February 12, marking the transition from the Year of the Rat in 2020 to the Year of the Ox.

The animal is said to bring a combination of good-natured patience and physical stamina to the year.

The three Ox-themed stamps - designed by Sydney-based illustrator Chrissy Lau - will feature traditional "lucky" colours gold and red and include the animal in different positions and holding different items.

"Lunar New Year is traditionally a time for relatives and friends to come together to exchange gifts and take part in big celebrations," Australia Post's Michael Zsolt said in a statement on Tuesday.

"Given the present unpredictable nature of gatherings and travel, we hope these beautifully designed stamps will encourage people to continue the great tradition of gift-giving at this time."
