Just one year after claiming the junior world title, teenager Dane Henry has won the ISA World Surfing Games men's crown and steered Australia to victory in the team event.
The Irukandjis were celebrating at Surf City, El Salvador the triumph by the Henry, while Morgan Cibilic won bronze in the same event and veteran Sally Fitzgibbons also placed third in the women's.
Already the most successful nation in WSG history, Australia broke a 14-year drought to win their sixth team gold medal.
Their success follows Molly Picklum becoming world champion earlier this month on the World Surf League's professional tour.
Henry, from Fingal Head in far north NSW, crushed the men's final, going up against World Surf League competitors Cibilic and Kauli Vaast of France, and Brazil's Douglas Silva.
He opened with a lofty full rotation that earned an 8.67 and then backed it by showcasing his array of skills on a long-right that scored 9.50.
Vaast's best wave scored 8.87 en route to his second place, ahead of Newcastle's Cibilic.
Henry became the first man in the modern era to win the WSG while still the reigning ISA world junior champion, which was held at the same break in 2024.
He follows in the footsteps of American great Tom Curren, who also held the junior and senior titles at the same time.
Only two other men - Brazilian Gabriel Medina and South African Jordy Smith - have won gold medals at both events.
"That is a crazy club to be a part of," Henry told the WSG website.
"The whole time I had belief in myself that I could do it. My surfing's been feeling spot on.
"I have a really special connection with this place and this competition now. I felt really in my element, which definitely pushed me through and helped me get the win."
Fitzgibbons is a WSG specialist, with the 34-year-old surfing her way through a marathon eight heats to win the title a record four times.
Spaniard Janire Etxabarri won the women's even by just one point with Fitzgibbons scoring the same total as Portugal's Yolanda Sequeira, but finishing third on a countback.
