Aussie Bedding Brand Bonny Is Here To Solve All Your Bed Making Woes

Bonny review

Friends, one of my most hated household tasks is putting sheets and the doona cover back on my bed. As a 5ft girlie who sleeps in a super king bed (6ft2 boyfriend), it literally takes so much effort to remake the damn thing that by the end of it I’m covered in sweat. And God forbid I put it on sideways or inside out. It’s rage-inducing!

Luckily for me, Aussie bedding brand Bonny is here to help solve most of my problems with its cleverly designed sheets, doonas and covers. If you’ve never heard of Bonny, allow me to put you on.

How are Bonny sheets different to other bed sheets?

For starters, instead of using thin, flimsy elastic that slips off the mattress, Bonny uses a thick, high-tension elastic band (similar to underwear waistbands) on its fitted sheets, so that they firmly hug the mattress.

On top of that genius idea, the sheets have also got extra deep sides. Their standard fitted sheets feature a very generous 50cm wall depth (and up to 55cm for Super King), meaning they comfortably fit deep mattresses and thick mattress toppers without flinging back up.

The size is clearly printed right on the elastic band. Even better, the corners have woven tags that say “top left” or “bottom right” — eliminating the pure rage of putting a fitted sheet on sideways. IYKYK! That post-wash dread has left my body.

Plus, every sheet set comes with a stretchy, branded band called a Sheet Belt, designed to wrap around your folded linens so your linen cupboard stays completely organised. *chef’s kiss*

Now, for those pesky pillow slips, Bonny has gone above and beyond by adding an extra-deep 40cm envelope flap, ensuring your pillows stay completely hidden and never poke out or come off while you’re sleeping.

Basically, once you try Bonny bedsheets, you’ll wonder why every bedsheet isn’t made like this!

How are Bonny Doonas different?

We know what you’re thinking: how different can a doona actually be? Well, Bonny doonas are premium 90 per cent duck down and 10 per cent feather fibre blend, so you get fluffy clusters rather than flat feathers, maximum warmth and cloud-like fluffiness with almost zero weight.

Now, when a doona is filled with down, it can raise some questions. But all of Bonny’s down is certified to the Responsible Down Standard (RDS), meaning it is a byproduct of the food industry and strictly guarantees no live-plucking or unnecessary animal harm.

The other key difference between a Bonny doona and a regular doona is the wave stitching. Instead of standard box squares, they use a unique wave pattern, which holds the down evenly in place so it doesn’t bunch up on one side. That, and the waves run vertically, helping you instantly identify which way the doona goes on the bed.

They also offer three different doona varieties: summer, winter and all-rounder. The summer doona is designed for hot sleepers, so it’s light and airy. The winter doona has heavy insulation for cooler months and climates. And the all-rounder, well, it does what it says on the lid. It’s an all-rounder designed to balance warmth and breathability for year-round use.

How They Work Together

The smartest feature is the integration between the sheets and the doona. Bonny’s doonas feature sewn-in corner loops, and Bonny quilt covers feature internal corner ties. When you loop them together, it completely locks the doona in place, preventing it from bunching up inside the cover in the middle of the night.

Bonny also actively recommends “sizing up” your doona for the best aesthetic (and to prevent blanket-hogging). For example, if you sleep on a queen bed, they suggest buying a king doona and a king quilt cover to get that draped, for that cosy, plush hotel look.

They also offer a 14-day trial period where you can actually sleep under the doona, and if it isn’t a good fit, you can return it for a full refund (and they donate the lightly used returns to charity partners). How good?!!

So Are Bonny Sheets, Doonas, and Doona Covers Worth The Spend?

I actually got my hands on a full set of Bonny goodies (sheets, doona and doona cover) and boy, oh, boy was it good. They’re probably the most thoughtfully designed bedding I’ve ever had the pleasure of experiencing. The sheets are made from 100 per cent organic cotton, so they’re crisp yet soft to sleep on. Every step post-wash was so simple, and I adored all the time (and crash out) saving features.

Why am I telling you this now? Well, the good news is that if you want to try Bonny for yourself, it’s currently running an EOFY sale where you can score $50 off all doonas and 15 per cent off all bed sheets. How good?!
