Attempted murder arrest after 'reckless' street shooting

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a shooting 13 days ago in Birkenhead.

Police executed a warrant at a home in Tranmere this morning after the firearms incident in Victoria Fields at 7.25pm on July 12.

Now, Merseyside Police say they have detained a man, 20, on suspicion of attempted murder, possession of a firearm and possession with intent to supply cannabis.

It was part of "ongoing work to disrupt serious and organised crime" across the county.

Officers attended the scene and found two bullet casings.

But police said they could not find any evidence of damage or injuries at the scene.

The scene was cordoned off by police while forensics and a house-to-house investigations were carried out.

The suspect was taken to a police station for questioning.

Police described the shooting as an "incredibly reckless act."

One person claimed the shots were fired from the back of two motorbikes in front of children.
