Atletico Madrid handed injury boost as Julian Alvarez latest revealed ahead of Arsenal second leg

Diego Simeone has issued an update on three Atletico Madrid stars in the wake of his side’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal in the Champions League semi-finals.

The La Liga outfit clung on for a first-leg stalemate in a tense night at the Estadio Metropolitano, where two penalties provided both goals.

The Gunners were denied a second spot-kick of the evening in the second half when Eberechi Eze was felled by David Hancko in the box, but the referee’s on-field awarding of the penalty was overturned by VAR in controversial fashion.

As for the hosts, they suffered a triple blow from the contest, with Giuliano Simeone, Julian Alvarez and Alexander Sorloth all suffering knocks.

However, Simeone gave a positive overview on the trio’s condition ahead of Tuesday’s reverse fixture at the Emirates Stadium.

“Honestly, knowing them, they’ll definitely be there on Tuesday,” Simeone revealed post-match.

“I can’t imagine any of them missing out. They’ve got some knocks.

“Giuliano from a blow, Julian from the fall he had in midfield, and Sorloth with some tightness in his hamstring, but I have no doubt they’ll be available.”

That news will come as a big boost for the Spanish side, who travel to London next week with the tie in the balance.

The hosts threatened in the second half, looking to cancel out Viktor Gyokeres’ opener from the spot on the stroke of half time.

Alvarez did just that from 12 yards, converting past David Raya after Ben White was adjudged to have handled Marcos Llorente’s volley.
