Atletico Madrid agree transfer deal for Real Madrid midfielder Marcos Llorente

Atletico Madrid have completed the signing of Real Madrid midfielder Marcos Llorente for a fee that could rise to around £35million.

The 24-year-old moves across the Spanish capital having been at Real since the age of 13.

After rising through the club's Castilla youth setup he made his senior debut in October 2015, before joining Alaves on loan for the 2016/17 campaign.

He played 39 times for Real in all, including 16 appearances in all competitions in the 2018/19 camapign.

"Real Madrid CF and Atletico de Madrid have agreed on the transfer of player Marcos Llorente," read an official Real statement .

"The club wants to show its gratitude for all these years of dedication and professionalism and for his exemplary behavior since he came to our academy in 2008 to his trajectory with the first team.

"Real Madrid wishes you good luck in your new stage."

Atletico's statement went even further, and praised the qualities of their new man, who becomes the first player to transfer directly from Real to Atletico since Jose Manuel Jurado in 2006.

"His excellent work as both midfielder and defender features a notorious capacity to anticipate and an intuition to intercept his rivals’ passes.

"During the 2016/17 season, he made his debut, and at only 21 years old he became the player who made the most recoveries during the season, with a total of 303 recoveries.

"We welcome a great football player and wish him the best of luck in this beautiful and new challenge defending the Atlético de Madrid shirt."

More departures are expected at Real in the coming weeks, as the club seek to somewhat balance the books following the big-money arrivals of Eden Hazard, Luka Jovic, Ferland Mendy, Eder Militao and Rodrygo Goes.
