At least three people have died this week in Greater Manchester after being hit by trains

A person has died after being hit by a train in Salford .

It is at least the third rail-related death within Greater Manchester in a matter of days.

Emergency services were called to the tracks near Eccles station at around 10.30am on Saturday.

Ambulance crews also attended, but the person was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Services were temporarily halted while investigations were carried out.

It is understood the train had been travelling between Newcastle and Liverpool.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said the death was being treated as non-suspicious.

They said in a statement: "BTP officers were called to the line close to Eccles railway station in Eccles on Saturday, June 29, after a report that a person had been struck by a train.

"Officers from BTP attended the incident, which was reported to us at 10.33am and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.

"Medics from the North West Ambulance Service also attended but the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"A file will be prepared for the coroner."

There have been at least two other deaths on the tracks this week.

On Monday, a 32-year-old man from Stockport died after being hit by a train in Hazel Grove , and on Friday, another person was killed on the line near to Wigan North Western station.
