BHOPAL: It's not Indore or Bhopal, but, Chhattarpur where maximum number of people are in the fray for contesting against the post of corporator in the civic polls.
Statistically one person is contesting against every 750 adult population in Chhattarpur. Overall more than 34000 people have filed nominations for contesting urban body elections in the state.
Till the last date, a total of around 34314 nominations were filed for contesting the elections for the post of corporator and 197 were filed for contesting the elections for the post of mayor in 16 municipal corporations of the state.
These nominations will be scrutinized on June 20, and symbols will also be allotted to the candidates.
As per the official sources while 370 people have filed nominations for contesting against the post of corporator in Bhopal and around 1140 have filed nominations for the same post in Indore district, it is Chhattarpur where maximum people have filed nominations for contesting against the post of corporartor as 1594 nominations have been received.
Sources said that the estimated adult population of Chhattarpur district is around 17 lakh, thus statistically at least one person out of every 750 adults in the district has filed nomination for contesting elections in Chhattarpur. Even in other two big cities of the state, Gwalior and Jabalpur, 1142 and 1054 people have filed nominations for contesting polls against the post of corporator.
Civic body polls were announced in the state on June 1, elections will be held at 11 of the 16 municipal corporations in the first phase on July 6. These 11 municipal corporations where elections will be held in the first phase include Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Gwalior, Khandwa, Burhanpur, Chhindwara, Ujjain, Sagar, Singrauli and Satna municipal corporations. And in the remaining 5 municipal corporations namely Rewa, Katni, Ratlam, Dewas and Morena municipal corporations elections will be held in the second phase on July 13.
