Aston Villa transfer news: Douglas Luiz bid encouraged as England starlet eyed

Aston Villa have been one of the most active clubs in the transfer window this summer and are set to have a new-look starting line-up on Saturday August 6 when they visit Bournemouth in their new Premier League campaign.

Boubacar Kamara signed as a free transfer from Marseille just after the end of last season and has since been joined by Sevilla centre-back Diego Carlos, while Philippe Coutinho and Robin Olsen have made their loan moves permanent.

Gerrard is now keen to further add to his squad after selling Matt Targett to Newcastle United for £15m after his successful loan but there could be further out-goings among fringe players. Mirror Football takes a look at the current speculation around the club and its transfer business.

Queue for Iroegbunam

Aston Villa’s highly-rated teenage midfielder Tim Iroegbunam is is wanted by several Championship clubs on loan. The 19-year-old has played a starring role for England’s under-19s at the European Championships.

Iroegbunam, signed from neighbouring West Brom last summer, has had a memorable last six months after making his Premier League debut at Brighton in February. Two months later, Iroegbunam was given his first start in the heart of Villa’s midfield in the win over Norwich, with Gerrard declaring beforehand how the former West Brom ace had “out-trained everyone”.

Now BirminghamLive report several Championship clubs are looking to take Iroegbunam on a season-long loan deal. Sheffield United, Stoke City, Blackburn Rovers, Swansea and Bristol City are just a few who’ve had the Villa youngster watched and are desperate to take him next season. Plus new QPR boss and former Villa assistant head coach Michael Beale who has also declared a strong interest.

Newcastle urged to join Luiz race

Former Arsenal and Everton striker Kevin Campbell believes Newcastle United should sign Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz.

Villa are open to selling the Brazilian, 24, who has one year remaining on his contract this summer. Italian clubs Roma and AC Milan are interested but are struggling to meet his price tag.

The Magpies have already signed Matt Targett, who joined on a permanent basis for £15m from Villa following a successful half-season loan spell at St James’ Park.

Campbell told Football Insider : “I like Douglas Luiz. He is a strong player and is somebody who is young but Premier League proven.

“Douglas Luiz is a player who could really go up there and excel. He is one of those guys who is a seven out of 10 every week. He’d be a great option alongside (Bruno) Guimaraes.”

Trezeguet farewells

Aston Villa winger Trezeguet is set to join Turkish side Trabzonspor in a transfer worth around £4.25m.

Trezeguet, 27, has been heavily linked with an exit from the club this summer after enjoying a successful loan spell in Turkey with Istanbul Basaksehir last season, as he netted six goals and recorded three assists across 13 appearances. The winger is entering the final year of his deal at Villa and the club are set to cash in on him now as a deal with Trabzonspor seemingly nears a conclusion.
