Aston Villa confirm major injury concern for Nottingham Forest clash

Aston Villa winger Leon Bailey is a doubt for Monday evening's trip to Nottingham Forest, Steven Gerrard has confirmed.

Forest welcome Villa to the City Ground next week looking to end their five-game losing streak. The Reds are bottom of the Premier League following Monday's 4-0 defeat to Leicester City and are two points from safety.

Steve Cooper is set to remain in charge for the time being despite reports he could lose his job. Forest could pull themselves off the bottom spot should they defeat Villa and results go their way elsewhere.

They face a Villa side who have gone three games undefeated and sit 14th in the league. Speaking to the press ahead of this weekend's short trip to Nottingham, Gerrard provided an update on a number of his players, including former Forest defender Matty Cash.

"Leon Bailey is a doubt, he's got a small muscle injury that we're assessing around the back of his knee," the Villa boss said.

"Luda [Augustinsson], we've had confirmation that he has a hamstring injury so that will be three weeks, give and take. We've got Matty Cash back in full training, he's been fine all week so he will be available for selection.

"Calum Chambers has done half the session today and we expect him to continue training up until Monday so he'll be a welcome boost back alongside Cashy. Diego Carlos is progressing well, Lucas Digne is a unique, complicated one that I can't give you too much information on. We will check it again in around 10 days under a scan situation to see if there's been enough healing, but if there hasn't then it could be a slow burner.

"We could have Lucas back in three of four weeks, it could be after the World Cup, I don't know. I think Kamara we already know the outcome of that and I think he will miss the World Cup unfortunately. Lucas hasn't been ruled out of anything because in 10 days time we could get some some really positive news, but at the same time we could get the news that we don't want which is he needs another really long rest period."
