Assam: 15 Rohingyas arrested at Badarpur railway station

SILCHAR: Fifteen Rohingyas, including three women and six minors, were arrested at Badarpur railway station in Karimganj district on Saturday.

According to the officer-in-charge of RPF, Badarpur, three RPF constables on duty intercepted the 15 people who were sitting in platform No.1 of the railway station.

On being questioned by the RPF constables, it was found that they belong to the Rohingya community who hail from Mandu locality of Rakhine State in Myanmar. They were, thereafter, held by the RPF.

The RPF found on them three identity cards issued by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, nine mobile phones and a sum of Rs 50,000. Sources said the arrested persons informed the police that they were staying at Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh and arrived at Siliguri early this week. From Siliguri they travelled to Badarpur by the Sealdah-Silchar Special train on Thursday and were staying in a local hotel. On Saturday they were waiting at Badarpur station to board a train to Agartala train with valid tickets when they were arrested.

RPF later handed them over to the GRP for further investigation. The arrested Rohingyas have been identified as Kausar (19), Mohammed Ayub (28), Mohhad Sayed (30), Mohammed Anis (14), Mohammed Ismail (16), Mohammed Rafik (19), Shuna Mehar (28), Zainab Begum (30), Subeira (18), Rafia (7), Muslim (5), Dilara (9), Noor Ajida (7), Mohammed Islam (6) and Noor Fatema (3), the sources added.
