Aslan's Christy Dignam thanks fans for good wishes during 'difficult time' as he remains in hospital

Christy Dignam has spoken from his hospital bed to thank fans for their good wishes during a “difficult time for me and my family”.

The Aslan frontman, who has been battling a rare blood disorder called amyloidosis since 2013, was hospitalised two weeks ago, forcing the band to postpone their 3Arena gig. Now 62-year-old Christy has spoken from his hospital bed to thank everyone for their messages of support and vow he will “be back home soon”.

Speaking exclusively to the Irish Mirror, he said: “Christy here, I would like to personally thank you all for all your messages of support and good wishes that were sent to me while I’m in hospital. They have really lifted my spirits in what was a difficult time for me and my family and the Aslan team.

“My treatment is going well and hopefully I’ll be back home soon. I can’t wait to get back on the road with the Boyz.. One Love, Christy.”

Earlier this week, band manager Denise McCormack rushed to assure fans that Christy is “in great form” and is on the road to recovery despite remaining in hospital. She said: “He’s doing OK. He’s still in hospital at the moment but he’s on the right road.

“He’s resting and with this new treatment now, there’s loads of different bits they have to monitor him with. He’s in good form, good spirits.

“Aslan are dying to get back out there again. Look, it happened but it was best that it happened that week and it wasn’t something that happened when we were in the 3Arena.” Ms McCormack rushed to clarify that Christy didn’t collapse but took a reaction to new medication he is taking.

She said: “He didn’t collapse. Just with the treatment he was on, there were some side effects to it. It was a reaction that he had, he wouldn’t have been well enough.

“But he was in hospital getting his check up and it happened there. He was in the right place. But he’s in good form.”

She said the band are also in talks to reschedule their postponed 3Arena date and will hopefully make an announcement soon. The 3Arena gig was due to be the band’s biggest show of their career to date, celebrating 40 years since they formed in 1982.
