Google is expanding its Ask Photos feature, which is an AI-powered search feature inside Google Photos. The feature is now available to more users in the US. The tool, previously available via early access, is backed by Gemini models to allow users to ask complex, natural language queries about their photo library, for example, “What did I eat on my trip to Barcelona?” or “Show me pictures that would look good as phone wallpapers.”
Based on early feedback, Google says it’s improving the speed and relevance of results, especially for simple queries like “dogs” or “beach.” The latest update merges classic Google Photos search capabilities with the generative power of Gemini. It is said to deliver quicker responses for basic queries while still refining deeper results in the background for more nuanced questions.
According to Google, users will not notice results appearing almost instantly, even as Gemini continues processing in the background to pull in the most accurate and context-aware suggestions. The company aims to make Ask Photos a single point of access for both quick and detailed photo searches.
Apart from that, the update also ends the early access phase of the feature, with a gradual rollout underway for more eligible Google Photos users across the US. However, the company is also encouraging users to continue sharing feedback as it fine-tunes the feature.
However, this is not the first time Google has used AI-powered features. Just last week, Google’s new Veo 3 text-to-video model became available in public preview via Vertex AI, offering creators high-definition visuals and synchronized audio from simple text prompts. Besides, the company has also updated Chrome on Android, which now allows users to move the address bar to the bottom, catering to those with larger phones.
