To celebrate the contribution of countless individuals up and down the country, the Asian Media Awards are honouring the “unnamed key worker” as their Asian Media Award media personality of the year award.
Working with two youth groups, they have released a video to celebrate the everyday winners of the award.
The award honours all of those who have risen to help a nation in need and the video shows young people celebrating this year’s winners.
This is not just our NHS frontline staff, but our cleaners, train drivers, our favourite takeaway chefs and so many more.
The Asian Media Awards said: “We felt it wasn’t just enough to recognise the emergency workers and those on the frontline putting their own lives at risk during the ongoing battle against the pandemic.
“It was also important to feature those, from all backgrounds and cultures who delivered our food, served us at our local shops and drove us home."
Every year, the Asian Media award is given to an individual who has helped inspire and help others through their words, thoughts and actions.
In previous years, winners have included the BBC’s Naga Munchetty, Channel 4’s Fatima Manji, and American-British journalist Mehdi Hasan.
Instead of letting the awards show, usually hosted at the Manchester Hilton, be cancelled they decided to announce the winners digitally.
The youth groups in the video conveyed the thanks of a nation to the key workers we all rely on.
The Asian Media Awards said: “We would like to thank volunteers from two youth groups who helped us share this message.
“We are sure you will join us in thanking them for their efforts in relaying the thoughts, ideas and words with such poise and professionalism.”
Shamim Chowdhury is a foreign correspondent for TRT World and has been judging the awards since they began in 2013.
She said: “This year has been overshadowed by the ongoing pandemic, and that’s why it is particularly important to show our gratitude to those who worked on the frontline in so many capacities. The award is also in honour of all those who lost their loved ones to the coronavirus.”
