Ashley Roberts hopes to get another role on the West End like Waitress

Ashley Roberts today said she would love to return to the West End stage.

The former Pussycat Doll, 37, made her London theatre debut in the musical Waitress for an eight-week run which finished earlier this month.

Now Roberts — who took on the comedic role of Dawn after being a runner-up in Strictly Come Dancing last year — has said she would return to the West End if the right role came along. “Coming out of Strictly, I really had the itch to go back on stage and perform,” she told Insider.

“I never had done a West End show or musical before, but I just really wanted to get out there and dive into a character and have that live audience.

“Waitress came into my life at the perfect time. I loved the character so much, so I definitely would be open to it, I just would have to be passionate about the role and really want to be part of a production. We’ll see.”

Roberts is currently showbiz correspondent for the Heart Breakfast radio programme with Amanda Holden and Jamie Theakston.

She backed her Strictly rival Joe Sugg, 27, to shine after it was announced he would be joining the cast of Waitress. The YouTuber, who is dating his former dance partner Dianne Buswell, 30, will play Ogie from September 9. Roberts said: “I’m excited for him, the cast is amazing, they’re so warm and welcoming.

“I had the best time over there, I’m sure they’re just going to [welcome him with] open arms over there. He does all his fun characters on YouTube that I’ve seen before, so I think he’ll be great.

“I know he’ll enjoy himself for sure.”

Roberts was speaking as she launched a dance class at Frame Studios in Shoreditch, called Do What Moves You with Bacardi.
