Ashfield Council leader secures urgent meeting to try and save bank

Leader of Ashfield District Council has secured a meeting to try and save major bank.

Lloyds Bank on Station Street, Kirby, is due to close for good February 7 2022.

Jason Zadronzy will be meeting with Lloyds Banking Group officials Jeremy Driver and David Brooks at 1pm tomorrow, Wednesday October 27.

Councillor Zadronzy is asking residents to get in touch with any questions they have as he makes a last ditch pitch to save Kirkby’s last bank.

Councillor Zadrozny will also ask for an assurance that there are no plans to close their other banks in the district – in Hucknall and Sutton-in-Ashfield.

He will also ask them to launch a consultation with customers in Kirkby and surrounding villages.

Councillor Zadrozny, himself a customer at the bank said, “Since the story broke last week – I have been inundated with complaints from customers.

"This includes residents who use Lloyds Bank in Hucknall and Sutton-in-Ashfield seeking an assurance that their banks are safe from closure.

"Many of people who have complained have been customers at the popular bank for generations.

"I will be making a strong case for Lloyds Bank to remain in Kirkby. We have exciting regeneration plans in Kirkby – these have already started with our new nearby Moor Market.

"I feel that this is a short-sighted decision that will impact local businesses, the elderly and the poorest who have to rely on a poor public transport service.

"The Government were quick enough to bail the banks during the banking crisis in 2008 – now they turn their backs based on us when we need them most.”
