A man attempted to steal razor blades and legs of lamb from Asda as police officers were inside the store arresting a suspected thief.
Police were called to Asda on Kirkland Street in St Helens on Monday at around 6.30pm when a man was caught stealing "numerous items" from the supermarket. The 36-year-old, from Widnes, was detained by security and later arrested on suspicion of theft and making threats to kill.
As officers dealt with that suspected thief, a second man walked into the store and attempted to steal a large quantity of razor blades and several legs of lamb.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said the 36-year-old man remains in custody.
Posting about the incident on Facebook, a spokesperson for St Helens Police said: "Officers from Team three arrested a male on suspicion of theft and threats to kill after he was detained by security staff, after being caught stealing numerous items from the Asda store in St Helens.
"Whilst officers were obtaining statements from staff, another male failed to notice the brightly coloured Police vehicle outside, and decided it was a good time to steal a large quantity of razor blades and several legs of lamb. He was also arrested by officers from Team 3 and taken to the cells. That's Asda Price."
