Asda set to launch own cargo ship in bid to save Christmas

Leeds based Asda has made a huge move in an attempt to save Christmas.

The supermarket giant is launching its own cargo ship in order to make sure you can get those precious toys and gifts to your loved ones this festive season.

Asda voiced concerns over the chain problems that have been hitting retailers up and down the county, making it much harder to source products from abroad.

The ship will have 350 containers carrying everything from festive and party decorations, party supplies, toys, gifts and even clothing.

The supermarket isn't the only retailer to make this new move as John Lewis have also done the same.

A spokesperson from Asda said: "This is the first time Asda has chartered its own ship and we have done so to navigate the industry-wide supply chain challenges and to make sure there is enough stock on the shelves for customers this Christmas."

Already this year, shortages have been reported on lots of food so Asda will also be stocking more turkey, pigs in blankets, Christmas puddings and mince pies.

Over 15,000 members of temporary staff have been employed to help over Christmas.

Asda have been making plenty of changes recently, with one bold move meaning beer pumps will be installed in shops.

It's currently in its trial stage, meaning it is only on sale in a Milton Keynes store.

Customers will be able to pick up their favourite drink in-store, filling reusable containers from beer pumps.

They will be able to choose from a menu of 12 regularly changing brews with staff using the draft beer pumps to pour the selected drink into refillable 1L or 2L glass containers.
