Artist 'in shock' after his incredible Conor McGregor painting is shared by The Notorious

An artist has spoken of his joy after his painted portrait of Conor McGregor caught the attention of the UFC star.

Darrell Seignoret, who has dedicated over 18 years to his craft and runs 868portraits, shared the incredible painting of the Dubliner to Instagram.

And as hundreds of fans enjoyed the stunning piece of art, McGregor himself shared the creation to his personal Instagram story.

Inspired to do the piece by his admiration for the former two-weight champ, the Trinidad and Tobago artist hopes that McGregor will come knocking for a commissioned piece in the future.

Seignoret told the Irish Mirror: "It was a piece I wanted to do for myself like three years now, I was inspired by his rise in the UFC, his determination to be the best, and his confidence in himself that he is the best.

"(I also admire) how he does the work to back it up, with my art I follow those principles of hard work, I take it very very seriously, and I put 110% into every piece. So in a nutshell, his drive, confidence and brutal work ethic are what inspired this piece."

He added: "I was beside myself when I saw he posted it on his story - I was in shock!

"He isn't afraid to shine the light on others, and yeah I definitely (would a commissioned piece) if I got the chance to do a portrait for him - That would be like my big fight!".

Meanwhile, McGregor has hinted that he could return to the UFC in his latest social media post.

The Notorious announced his retirement from MMA for the third time in four years in June, claiming the "game just does not excite me".

But in an Instagram post on the fourth anniversary of his win over Nate Diaz, McGregor wrote: "4 years ago today!

"Backstage waiting to go out for one of the biggest bouts of my fighting life! McGregor/Diaz II. Wow!

"Maybe there is more..."

Speaking to ESPN's Ariel Helwani after announcing his retirement two months ago, the former two-weight champion said: "The game just does not excite me, and that's that.

"All this waiting around. There's nothing happening. I'm going through opponent options, and there's nothing really there at the minute. There's nothing that's exciting me.

"They should have just kept the ball rolling. I mean, why are they pushing [Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Justin Gaethje] back to September? You know what's going to happen in September, something else is going to happen in September, and that's not going to happen.

"I laid out a plan and a method that was the right move, the right methods to go with. And they always want to balk at that and not make it happen or just drag it on.

"Whatever I say, they want to go against it to show some kind of power. They should have just done the fight -- me and Justin for the interim title -- and just kept the ball rolling."
