Arsenal vs Manchester United LIVE: Premier League result, latest updates and fan reaction

LIVE: Arsenal vs Manchester United - (Getty Images)

Arsenal vs Manchester United LIVE

Arsenal suffered another blow to their Premier League title hopes after losing a five-goal thriller at home to Manchester United on Sunday. Matheus Cunha scored what turned out to be the winning goal at the Emirates Stadium, a brilliant curling effort from range, to consign Arsenal to their first home defeat of the season.

The result means the Gunners’ lead at the top of the table has been cut to four points after title rivals Manchester City and Aston Villa recorded 2-0 wins over Wolves and Newcastle respectively. As for Man United, after a stunning performance in the derby win over Man City last weekend, it’s another feather in the cap of Michael Carrick as his side leapfrog bitter rivals Liverpool in the table to go fourth.

An own goal from Lisandro Martinez opened the scoring before Mikel Merino looked to have earned the hosts a point after Bryan Mbeumo’s equaliser and a stunning strike from Patrick Dorgu. Follow Arsenal vs Manchester United back below with Standard Sport's dedicated match blog, featuring expert insight and analysis from Matt Verri at the Emirates Stadium.

An absolute mess from a corner but Arsenal do not care one bit. Merino with the poacher's instincts in the box. Near enough every Arsenal player waving their arms around as the goal is confirmed after a quick VAR check. Arteta too. These final minutes could be complete chaos.

Looks like Saka will be over on the left wing now with Madueke on the pitch. Interesting from Arteta - Saka has been the man Arsenal have kept looking to in this half. Gives Dalot at right-back a very different challenge now.

Gunners have not had a shot on target since the 18th minute.

Arsenal 1-2 Manchester United

17:50 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

62 min: Saka with a cross that sails into the arms of Lammens. The United goalkeeper won’t mind dealing with crosses like that for the remainder of this game.

Matt Verri at Emirates Stadium

17:46 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Just in case you needed any evidence of what Arteta thinks of this performance - four changes! The kitchen sink has been thrown at it early. And the Arsenal boss then turns to the crowd and waves his arms, demanding more noise.

HALF-TIME!

17:18 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Arsenal 1-1 Manchester United

Bryan Mbeumo cancels out Lisandro Martinez’s own goal and it’s all square at the break.

Arsenal 1-1 Manchester United

17:16 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

45 min: Into two minutes of stoppage time as Mbeumo attempts to catch Raya off his line with a cute lob and the ball drops just wide of the Arsenal keeper’s post.

Matt Verri at Emirates Stadium

17:12 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

The Emirates has often been a bag of nerves this season and it's turning into that again. Groans as Arsenal lose it again in midfield, been really sloppy on the ball since going on front. Could probably do with half-time to reset.

Arsenal 1-1 Manchester United

17:12 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

41 min: Hincapie does well to deal with Amad but only at the expense of a Man Utd corner which the Ivorian takes and Raya does well to punch clear.

Matt Verri at Emirates Stadium

17:09 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

That's briefly taken the air out of the stadium. Zubimendi with an awful back pass and Mbeumo keeps his cool. Arsenal fans stunned - looks like being another half where the Gunners don't make the most of their dominance.

GOAL! Arsenal 1-1 Manchester United | Bryan Mbeumo ‘37

17:08 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

37 min: MAN UNITED EQUALISE!

It has been coming and Man United are back on level terms as Bryan Mbeumo takes full advantage of Martin Zubimendi's mistake.

Arsenal 1-0 Manchester United

17:06 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

36 min: Very awkward Man United corner which Raya does well to deal with. Looked like Jesus got a touch on the ball and the Arsenal keeper had to dig it out from underneath his own crossbar.

Arsenal 1-0 Manchester United

17:04 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

34 min: Arsenal fortunate there as Saliba makes amends for a mistake in the box and gets a crucial touch on the ball to force Fernandes into shooting wide.

Matt Verri at Emirates Stadium

17:02 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Felt like Arsenal kept the ball for about three minutes before that goal. Eventually they injected some pace into the attack, Saka with a lovely flick inside to Odegaard and his guided volley forced the goal. Timber slotting in as striker sums up the way Arsenal have their full-backs playing.

Arsenal 1-0 Manchester United

17:02 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

31 min: Nearly an immediate response from Man United as Mbeumo races through and picks out Fernandes who shoots wide.

GOAL! Arsenal 1-0 Manchester United | Own goal ‘29

17:00 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

29 min: ARSENAL LEAD!

It looks like a Lisandro Martinez own goal, but the Gunners will not care.

Man United defender, is under pressure from Jurrien Timber, and deflects the ball into own net.

Arsenal 0-0 Manchester United

16:57 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

27 min: Loads of possession for Man United but haven’t been able to test this Arsenal defence.

Matt Verri at Emirates Stadium

16:54 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

It's taken more than 20 minutes but United are having their first spell of decent possession, where they can slow the match down. Has largely been one-way traffic otherwise but no real chances for Arsenal yet.

Arsenal 0-0 Manchester United

16:51 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

21 min: Shaw sticks to his task against Saka to concede a corner.

Whipped in by Saka to the near post, Gabriel hurls himself at the ball but can’t get a clean connection on the ball. His reaction suggests he felt that was a big chance.

Arsenal 0-0 Manchester United

16:48 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

18 min: Dorgu is tackled by Odegaard but sprints back to pinch the ball off Saka, he does but fouls the Arsenal winger aswell and that means the Gunners have a free-kick in a dangerous position...

Rice whips the ball in, Zubimendi rises highest but Lammens turns the ball over the bar.

Good save.

Matt Verri at Emirates Stadium

16:46 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Arsenal suffocating United when they press. Winning it back in midfield gets them away on the counter. Rice has options either side - probably wasn't expecting to see Saliba as the one bursting into the box on the overlap.

Arsenal 0-0 Manchester United

16:45 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

15 min: Arsenal win the ball back in midfield, Odegaard frees Rice who finds Saliba in an unfamiliar position and the Frenchman perhaps makes the wrong selection in the box as his cut back is read by Martinez.

Arsenal 0-0 Manchester United

16:43 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

13 min: Trossard showing he can impact the game at both ends. Switched on to stop a potential Man United counter-attack and then brings the ball forward to earn Arsenal a free-kick.

Matt Verri at Emirates Stadium

16:42 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Latest addition to the Arsenal corner playbook. Odegaard one of those on the edge of the area to make the decoy runs and create space for Saka.

Rice pings the deliver to him, but Saka can't get it down quickly enough and his shot is blocked.

Arsenal 0-0 Manchester United

16:40 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

10 min: Arsenal’s first set-piece of the game is headed clear by the Man Utd defence, but only as far as Trossard who can’t keep his attempt down.

Matt Verri at Emirates Stadium

16:38 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Arsenal's left wing looking really sharp early on. Hincapie with a couple of good moments up against Amad, and Trossard already has the beating of Dalot.

Promising start from the hosts.

Arsenal 0-0 Manchester United

16:38 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

8 min: Trossard has been Arsenal’s brightest attacker so far, good work down the left and he feeds Rice who fires a shot right into the back of Martinez’s legs.

Arsenal 0-0 Manchester United

16:37 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

7 min: First chance for Saka to run at Shaw, he backs the Man United into the box and looks to slip in Timber but Casemiro is across to guard the ball out of play.

Arsenal 0-0 Manchester United

16:35 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

5 min: First big cheer of the afternoon is afforded to Hincapie after a crunching tackle on Amad. The Arsenal fans really enjoyed that.

Arsenal 0-0 Manchester United

16:33 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

3 min: Decent play by Arsenal as Trossard flicks the ball into Jesus’ path but the Brazilian is wiped out by Martinez. Brazil vs Argentina there, though the flag was up against the forward.

It's been a big talking point for about a month - will Arteta decided to drop Gyokeres out of the side and bring in Jesus?

It's taken a while but today is the day, as Jesus makes his first Premier League start in more than a year.

On the evidence of recent weeks you can't argue with it at all.

Carrick issues Mainoo verdict

15:05 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Michael Carrick has hailed Kobbie Mainoo as a “prime example” of how young players are the “foundation” of Manchester United.

The Red Devils are reportedly set to open talks with the midfielder over a new contract.

The England international was hardly used by Carrick’s predecessor Ruben Amorim, which led to Mainoo unsuccessfully requesting to be loaned out.

Since then, Amorim has departed and Carrick has taken over the reins at Old Trafford on an interim basis, with Mainoo starting his first game in charge against Manchester City last weekend.

Calafiori return delayed?

15:00 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Riccardo Calafiori, Kai Havertz and Christian Norgaard were all missing from Arsenal's team walk ahead of their Premier League match against Manchester United.

Arsenal return to the Emirates Stadium after four successive away games in all competitions as they bid to maintain their seven-point gap at the top of the Premier League.

But as injuries continue to impact the squad, the delayed return of Calafiori and Havertz could pose an issue for the Gunners.

Mikel Arteta makes Premier League title declaration

14:55 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Mikel Arteta has his sights set firmly on Arsenal being crowned Premier League champions this season, declaring nobody wants to win the title more than him.

It is more than 20 years since the Gunners last got over the line, when the Invincibles went unbeaten under Arsene Wenger.

Arsenal have finished second in the last three seasons under Arteta but are firm favourites to go one better this time.

Ahead of Manchester United's visit on Sunday, Arsenal sit seven points clear at the top of the Premier League with 16 matches to play.

The general view is that this is Arsenal's title to lose, but Arteta insisted that expectation is not an added burden for him heading into the business end of the season.

Predicted Manchester United XI

14:50 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Michael Carrick has been weighing up whether bring Benjamin Sesko back into the Manchester United team, and shift Bryan Mbuemo back to the wing, to help combat Arsenal's aerial strengths.

Carrick said on Friday that “certain games will have different styles”.

Noussair Mazraoui is set to be available after returning from the Africa Cup of Nations but it seems unlikely he will come straight back into the team in place of Diogo Dalot.

Predicted Man Utd XI (4-2-3-1): Lammens; Dalot, Maguire, Martinez, Shaw; Casemiro, Mainoo; Amad, Fernandes, Dorgu; Mbeumo.

Predicted Arsenal XI

14:45 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Arsenal will hope to be boosted by the return of Riccardo Calafiori and Piero Hincapie as Manchester United visit the Emirates this afternoon.

Calafiori and Hincapie both returned to full training on Friday and are pushing to make the squad.

Calafiori has been out for a month and is unlikely to come straight into the starting lineup even if he is fit, so Jurrien Timber could be preferred at left-back again.

Predicted Arsenal XI (4-3-3): Raya; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Timber; Zubimendi, Rice, Odegaard; Saka, Gyokeres, Martinelli.

(London Standard)

Opportunity knocks for Bukayo Saka

14:40 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

On the basis of one particular set of stats, Arsenal are defying logic, writes Matt Verri.

The Premier League numbers for their attackers are not pretty reading. Viktor Gyokeres, the big summer signing, has one goal in his last ten league matches. Noni Madueke does not have a goal or assist in 13 appearances.

Gabriel Martinelli has one goal in 17 matches, Kai Havertz has not played in the league since August, and Gabriel Jesus' seven appearances off the bench have brought a single goal.

Bukayo Saka started the season in better form, but he is now on a run of 12 matches without a goal in all competitions, the joint-worst of his club career.

Prior to their win over Man United back in August, Arsenal drew one and lost (on penalties) the other of their most recent clashes with this old foe.

Before that, though, the Gunners had won five out of six meetings with the Red Devils, and haven’t lost to this opponent at home in the Premier League since 2017.

Arsenal vs Manchester United prediction

14:20 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

The Gunners began their 2025/26 campaign with a narrow victory over United at Old Trafford, and it’s hard to put weight behind anything other than another Arsenal victory given this bout is at the Emirates, where Mikel Arteta’s side are unbeaten this season and have conceded a division-low five league goals.

Still, while they remain defensively suspect at times, the Red Devils are still an offensive force to be reckoned with on their day, as evidenced by last weekend’s Manchester derby. There’s every chance the visitors, seemingly re-energised under Michael Carrick, cause Arsenal problems even if another upset proves to be beyond their reach.

Arsenal to win, 2-1.

Manchester United team news

14:15 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Michael Carrick could elect to field the same Man Utd XI that succeeded in toppling Arsenal’s title rivals Man City last Saturday.

Arsenal team news

14:10 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Mikel Arteta faces a potential selection dilemma ahead of this potential banana peel of a home tie: Viktor Gyokeres or Gabriel Jesus?

In truth it is most likely Gyokeres who will start at the Emirates, with Jesus having played more midweek minutes in Milan while scoring two goals to the Swedish substitute’s one on that occasion.

Until this point in the campaign the Brazilian had been restricted to cameo appearances upon his return from an ACL injury, yet suddenly he’s narrowing the gap to his positional rival’s goals tally in some 1400 fewer minutes between the Premier League and Champions League.
