Arsenal FC 1 - 0 Crystal Palace FC

Arsenal vs Crystal Palace

16:40

Arsenal hang on to win three crucial points and remain in top spot after a 1-0 victory at home to Crystal Palace. The Gunners were far from at their best, but Eze’s 39th-minute strike against his old team was enough to see them record a seventh consecutive victory in all competitions. Arteta’s men also picked up their fifth consecutive clean sheet against a Palace side which, for all of their positive signs on the front foot, failed to create a significant chance against the table-toppers. In fact, it was Arsenal who looked most likely to score the game’s second goal, when Gabriel met Rice’s cross before crashing a header against the crossbar five minutes after half-time. Guehi also snuffed out Trossard’s cross to prevent Saka from scoring a tap-in at the back post in the 58th minute, meaning Arsenal have conceded just three goals so far in the league after nine matches played. The Gunners finished with 1.08 xG to their name, compared to Palace’s 0.47. Arsenal now look forward to a EFL Cup meeting at home to Brighton on Wednesday, while Palace travel to Liverpool on the same night. That’s all from us for this one, thanks for joining!

Since the 2017-18 season, only Adama Traore (112) and James Milner (106) have more Premier League sub appearances than Eddie Nketiah (103).

HOW HAVE THEY NOT SCORED?! Rice takes the free-kick short to Eze, who returns the ball to his teammate. Rice then crosses and finds Gabriel at the back post, but his header strikes the crossbar. That could've been the game there for Arsenal.

Arsenal vs Crystal Palace

Arsenal haven't been at their vintage best in the first half but they still take a 1-0 lead into the break courtesy of Eze's strike against his former club on 39 minutes. The home side have struggled to create chances in the final third, with Eze's finish being just their second shot on target, but they finally found the opener via a familiar route. Pino gave away a free-kick in the Arsenal half, allowing Rice to deliver a searching set-piece cross towards Gabriel at the back post. Palace got a head to it but couldn't clear fully, allowing the ball to bobble into Eze's path. He made no mistake, finishing brilliantly on the half volley inside the penalty area to net his first goal in Arsenal colours. Earlier in the half, Raya got down to deny Munoz after he had been played through by Mateta, though the linesman later raised the offside flag anyway. SAVE!! Raya denies Palace, who are looking a real threat on the attack. Mateta initially does really well to hold off Saliba from a long ball, bringing it under control and playing Munoz through down the right. He lets fly with his right foot, but Raya makes the save. Soon after the linesman put his flag up anyway, but Palace continue to grow into this one. Still 0-0.

Arsenal vs Crystal Palace

14:24

Zubimendi surrenders possession in his own half, allowing Sarr to break down the right. He had the chance to find Mateta in the penalty area, but instead opted to shoot from a difficult angle and Gabriel makes the block. Arsenal haven't got going yet.

Arsenal vs Crystal Palace

14:24

Arsenal have not faced a single shot on target in either of their last two Premier League matches. On record since 2003-04, the only side to go three games in a row without facing a shot on target are Manchester City between May and August 2014.
