Arsenal under-23s appoint new coach following Steve Bould departure

Kevin Betsy has been appointed as the new Arsenal under-23s head coach, football.london understands.

Reports emerged earlier in the summer suggesting that Betsy, the current England Under-18s manager, was a strong contender for the role and football.london has learned that he was the number one managerial target for academy chief Per Mertesacker.

The 43-year-old will be looking to follow on in the hallowed footsteps of the all-time Arsenal great, and take the London Colney set up to new heights producing the next wave of exciting talent.

Bould, who spent 33 years at Arsenal, first arrived at Highbury in 1988 and went on to feature 372 times for Arsenal winning three league titles, the FA Cup, the League Cup and the European Cup Winners' Cup.

The 58-year-old undertook various coaching roles at the Gunners following his retirement as a player in 2000, and started off as youth academy coach in 2001 earning his badges.

Having impressed as the Under-18s manager, winning the 2008/09, 2009/10 Under-18s Premier League and 2008/08 FA Youth Cup, Bould became the new first-team assistant manager in 2012 working alongside Arsene Wenger.

He then swapped roles with Freddie Ljungberg in 2019 which saw the Swede act as interim head coach and Bould take control of the Under-23s.
