Roma have moved a step closer to signing Granit Xhaka after finally agreeing to pay Arsenal's asking price of €20million (£17million) for the Swiss midfielder.
Xhaka was signed from Borussia Monchengladbach for a fee in the region of £35million in the summer of 2016.
The midfielder arrived at the Emirates with huge expectations, but Xhaka endured a difficult debut campaign in England, registering two red cards and two errors leading to goals in his first 12 months for the Gunners.
Since then he has continued to struggle with ill-discipline and lapses of concentration, something that Arsenal fans have grown increasingly frustrated at in recent months.
Therefore, when news broke of AS Roma's interest in the 28-year-old some of the Gunners faithful were open to offloading Xhaka amid Mikel Arteta's plans for a huge squad overhaul this summer.
The Italian side have been locked in talks with Arsenal in recent weeks after the Giallorossi saw an offer of €15million (£12.8million) rejected by the north London outfit, who were holding out for a fee closer to £20million.
However, Roma have now indicated to the Gunners that they are willing to offer €20million (£17million) plus add-ons for Xhaka, according to La Gazzetta Dello Sport via Vocegiallorossa.
The report also claims that personal terms should not be an issue, with Xhaka keen to work under Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho at the Stadio Olimpico.
The Swiss international has two years remaining on his current deal at the Emirates and he is currently away with his country on international duty at Euro 2020.
According to Transfermarkt, he is currently valued at £19.8million.
