Arsenal transfer rumours: £9.7m Torreira offer, Bertrand claim, defender in contract talks

Arsenal have been one of the more active Premier League clubs in the January transfer window so far.

As was the case in what turned out to be a decent summer for Gunners manager Mikel Arteta as he was able to bolster his first-team squad with four new faces - as well as the return of Dani Ceballos on another season-long loan deal from Real Madrid.

Arsenal spent just over £70m on four major additions as they signed Thomas Partey, Gabriel Magalhaes, Alex Runarsson, and Willian.

There has been two new arrivals this month in the shape of Omar Rekik from Hertha Berlin and Mat Ryan from Brighton & Hove Albion.

With that said, the main focus this month has been to trim the first-team squad.

Sokratis, Mesut Ozil, Matt Macey, Sead Kolasinac, and William Saliba have all left the Emirates Stadium - with the latter pair joining Schalke and Nice on loan respectively for the remainder of the season.

There's plenty of other speculation surrounding potential incomings and outgoings for Arteta's side, so here are the latest Arsenal-related transfer rumours and stories.

Mustafi contract talks

Shkodran Mustafi is in talks with Arsenal to end his contract early, football.london understands.

The German defender's contract expires on June 30 of this year and is attracting interest from clubs in Germany as well as Italy.

However, the current financial climate makes it highly unlikely that any team can afford to pay a transfer fee for Mustafi, who arrived from Valencia for a fee of £35million in 2016.

As a result, he and his representatives have been exploring possibilities to secure him a move away this month, in the same way that Mesut Ozil and Sokratis Papastathopoulos have left the club in recent days.

Spanish giants Barcelona were one of many clubs linked to his signature in the past, although interest from Serie A teams including Lazio appears to be his most likely destination now.

Torreira offer

Fiorentina have reportedly made a 'take it or leave it' to Arsenal for Lucas Torreira.

That's according to our friends at the Mirror.

The 24-year-old is currently on loan at Atletico Madrid but has only managed to make two starts in La Liga so far this season and Gunners technical director Edu has expressed his concern at the midfielder's situation.

But there's some confusion in regards to what will happen in the next week.

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone is said to want to keep Torreira, believing he can still have an impact this season when he decides to rotate his team.

Although, Italian outlet La Nazione, claim Fiorentina have made an offer to take over the loan deal with an option to sign Torreira permanently for around £9.7m in the summer.

Bertrand claim

Ryan Bertrand won't be going anywhere in January amid links to Arsenal.

That's the verdict of former Gunners defender Martin Keown, who believes that the 31-year-old defender will be staying put on the south coast.

Bertrand's contract with Southampton is due to expire this summer, and with an agreement not confirmed as of yet, other clubs are said to be monitoring his situation, with the north Londoners among those interested

Arsenal are keen to bolster their options at left-back, with Bertrand one of a number of stars who could potentially offer competition to Kieran Tierney.

However, Keown does not expect Bertrand to be joining Arsenal anytime soon.

Speaking on BT Sport's coverage of Southampton's FA Cup fourth round tie with Arsenal, which Saints won 1-0, he said: “He has that experience. This is a young team here [at Southampton], so I don’t think he is going anywhere."
