Arsenal transfer news: Mikel Arteta expecting movement as 'double medical booked'

Mikel Arteta has said he is expecting activity in the transfer market imminently with Arsenal closing in on a double deal.

The Gunners have been somewhat quiet so far this summer. To date, their only incomings are Illan Mesiler on a free transfer and Christos Tzolis for around £34million from Club Brugge.

Piero Hincapie’s loan move from Bayer Leverkusen has also been made permanent this summer, but the Premier League champions are expected to be busy between now and transfer Deadline Day at the beginning of September.

One player being heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium is Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes, with some reports suggesting a medical has been scheduled for the Brazilian as early as Monday.

Furthermore, Arsenal are exploring a deal for Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Junior, with the forward locked in contract negotiations with the LaLiga giants.

Speaking after the Gunners’ 4-1 win over Girona in pre-season on Saturday evening, Arteta delivered a transfer update.

He said: “Well, we are really active, trying to improve and evolve the team. That's clear. We expect to have movements in the next few weeks, obviously, because we want to get better like anybody else.

“And you can just see it. The transfer market and our opponents, what we are doing, we won't sit still.

“And we are very ambitious in what we want to do.”

Amid reports that Newcastle have accepted a bid of £80m from the Gunners for Guimaraes, sources on Tynside insist there has still been no direct contact between the clubs over the 28-year-old

In fact, the Brazilian is scheduled to meet up with his Newcastle team-mates for their pre-season training camp in La Manga on Sunday after an extended break following the World Cup.

Elsewhere, the Athletic have claimed that Arsenal are closing in on the sale of Christian Norgaard after just one season with the experienced midfielder set to undergo a medical for a proposed £7m move to Everton.
