Arsenal transfer news: Luka Jovic opportunity, Cody Gakpo contact and Darwin Nunez worry

Last week was a huge step in the right direction at a crucial time for Arsenal - winning against Chelsea and Manchester United, who had also begun looking in with a big chance. The Gunners are now back in a solid position to take the all-important fourth spot.

After three consecutive Premier League defeats, many were already projecting that Mikel Arteta's side would hand the fourth place spot to bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the battle for Champions League qualification.

In the coming weeks, Arsenal will have two huge games against West Ham and Spurs, who hope to remain in the battle for the final UCL spot after the latter drew with Brentford last weekend. The 2021/22 campaign has brought many positives for Arsenal, with the club having a clear direction along with a good core group of players to build the future around.

This summer, though, will arguably be the club's most important one as they look to set themselves up for long-term success. Here's a look at the latest transfer rumours:

Arteta interested in Luka Jovic

Sky Germany have reported that Mikel Arteta is keen on bringing Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic to Arsenal. However, the out of sorts striker would prefer to return to Germany.

Jovic has endured a dire time since joining Madrid in 2019, scoring just three goals after his big-money move, whilst going back on loan to Eintracht Frankfurt last season. Madrid are looking to cash in on the striker, with Arteta said to be an admirer.

Gunners in a battle for Cody Gakpo

A report from Voetbal has suggested that Arsenal are in the picture to sign PSV winger Cody Gakpo, with Liverpool and Manchester City already declaring their interest.

Gakpo made his debut for his hometown club PSV in 2018 and has impressed since - scoring nine goals and assisting another 13 this season.

The report claims that Arsenal, Man City and Bayern Munich have also been in contact with PSV and will provide tough competition for Liverpool in their pursuit. The Dutch club are reportedly looking for £34 million to let him leave.

Darwin Nunez worry

Arsenal are now reportedly worried that Benfica striker Darwin Nunez will not join them this summer. The Express reports that his price tag could go up, which will tempt other teams to make an offer above what they're willing to spend.

Nunez will be in demand this summer, having impressed throughout this season. He has 25 goals this campaign in a breakout season for the Uruguayan, and he has been linked with a number of big European clubs.

Arsenal will certainly be in the market for a striker after losing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, leaving for Barcelona and Alexander Lacazette, set to leave as a free agent.
