Arsenal transfer latest: Arteta 'loses patience' with £72m ace as Kieran Tierney backup targeted

Arsenal are set for yet another busy summer transfer window. Mikel Arteta's side splashed out £140million last time around, more than any other Premier League side.

Now, the north Londoners will be looking to build on a promising season that ultimately ended in disappointment, with local rivals Tottenham Hotspur piping them to a spot in next season's UEFA Champions League. The Gunners continue to be linked with a number of top-class players as technical director Edu scours the market for players that will improve Arteta's squad.

With that in mind, football.london takes a look at the latest transfer rumours swirling around the Emirates Stadium.

Zinchenko interest

Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for Manchester City frontman Gabriel Jesus in recent times and the Brazilian international isn't the only City player on the club's radar, according to The Daily Mail. They claim that versatile squad player Olexandr Zinchenko has garnered interest from the Gunners, who reportedly see the Ukrainian international as a potential midfield option.

Arteta's side looked light in the centre of the park throughout the 2021/22 season and signing a Premier League proven talent that can also deputies for left-back Kieran Tierney makes a lot of sense.

Pepe exit?

Nicolas Pepe has struggled for consistency since signing for a club-record fee of £72million back in the summer of 2019. The Ivorian international fell down the pecking order during the 2021/22 campaign, with youngsters Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Emile Smith Rowe all preferred on the flanks.

Now, French outlet Foot Mercato have reported that the Gunners have 'lost patience' with the 26-year-old and have even offered him to Ligue 1 champions PSG. Pepe has just over two years remaining on his current contract in north London and he recently found a new agent ahead of the summer window.

Hickey alternative

Bologna fullback Aaron Hickey is another player that has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates in recent weeks as Arsenal look to bolster their options at fullback. Now, The Sun have reported that the club are keen on Inter Milan wingback Federico Dimarco.

The Italian struggled for regular game time with the Nerazzurri last term but impressed when given the minutes, registering an impressive 0.33 xA (expected assists) per 90 minutes in Serie A, as per fbref. Comparatively, Martin Odegaard ranked highest in that category for the Gunners last season with 0.22xA per 90.

Still, the aforementioned report claims that Inter want £20million for Dimarco, a sum that the north London outfit are unlikely to pay as he would likely play second fiddle to Tierney if he was to sign for Arteta's men.
